Camping trip crochet

We went on vacation for 12 whole days!! 12 days of fun - 12 days of uninterrupted family time - 12 days with the hubby - 12 days of bliss!! 8 of those 12 days were spent camping and what a fun, peaceful, relaxing, serene time it was. It kind of made me want to move into a more rural area with not so much hustle and bustle. We hung out and talked, played games and cards, hiked, cooked together, cleaned up together. We arose with the sun and basically went to sleep right after the sun totally went down for the day. Although not before huge quantities of smore's were made and consumed!!
As always the question of which projects to bring on a trip are of a big concern to me. This time there was also the space contraint to think about. With all the clothes, camping gear and food there was very little space leftover. This is the box of yarn for my granny stripe blanket that sat on the floor in the front passenger well. It really wasn't too bad!!

Side view of "the blanket". It was a lot of fun to work on this. And to get to change yarn every two rows was a huge plus for me. I like the way the double crochet stitches look.

The last few rows that are being worked on. I'm not quite sure why the crochet bug never hit me before - it has me now with a vengence!! I have a few ideas in my head of other things I would like to create with yarn and hook.

The blanket now has a total of 28 stripes - I think it might take 50 or 55 stripes to get it to the size I would like it to be. Just a little lap quilt to snuggle up with and keep us warm!!

Sewing for "Cheetah"

Of course "Cheetah" (favortie lovey) needed a pillow as well as a blanket. J couldn't be happier!

Disneyland Knitting

We are back from a very fun trip to Disneyland and California Adventures. The kids were ecstatic! Our youngest is now tall enough to ride on most of the rides and he chose to do so. Everyone had such a blast!!
On the drive there, I finished knitting the last strip for blanket #5. What a relief!

The ends still need to be woven in and then all the strips need to be sewn together, but that can be done at home at night while watching TV at the end of the day :o)

At Disneyland, there was also knitting. The first strip on the 6th blanket was started and I think this is my favorite colorway.

I love the orange and the brown and how the yarn changes color. The pictures are not doing it justice.

My daughter had to take a picture of me knitting in line!! This is how I pass the time. So many people comented and one woman asked how the little bobbles were formed - she was very excited by how easy it was and told me when she got home she was going to try it. Pretty neat!!

I love these books. I read "A Shop on Blossom Street" some time ago and just now picked this one up. I finished it last night and thought it was really good. I would definitely read it again in the future. I find the stories so uplifting - maybe that's why I like Disneyland so much - always a happy ending.

Project updates

There are now 12 stripes on my granny blanket from Lucy's Attic 24. I am in love with it!! Who knew crochet could be so much fun to do! I can't wait to crochet the next stripe - I don't really plan ahead, I just grab from the box of "class 4" yarns - most of which are Vanna's Choice, but some are different. I just compiled all of my leftovers of the same weight and am letting it happen. So fun and so hard to put down!!
This one is not as much fun. In fact, this is kind of annoying. Each section is picked up from the previous section, knit and then bound off. Thank goodness I know how to weave in as I go or else this one would just be placed in the "never to do" project pile. To give this project credit, I do like the way it looks and think a blanket will look very nice - it is the process that is tough.

Fun, fun, sewing

The last time we were at the fabric store, DS#2 saw some fabric and told me that "cheetah" just had to have a blanket. I just had to indulge him :o)

He helped to feed the fabric into the machine.
He wanted to try out all the decorative stitches on the machine for the top stitching.

All done and cheetah needs to be wrapped up.

A very happy cheetah!! Cheetah is wrapped in his blankie every night now - we don't want him getting cold, don't you know!
