Things have been super crazy busy around here lately!! I have been making up samples for my summer camps so that the kids (and their parents) can see what they will be learning in class.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC5wYRxRJtW146_hcIehhwCVpeq5mO7DcMXRvC1tEyunGiyklowCdr0qmpMXz1mti6Gd4df4hg9JVq1Kx289BkUi-2U-Nx7d7ROiK9YRy-4brHsQXNMaXsHhhHx4xQyRRXVqv9UNF2wio/s1600/IMAG1030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC5wYRxRJtW146_hcIehhwCVpeq5mO7DcMXRvC1tEyunGiyklowCdr0qmpMXz1mti6Gd4df4hg9JVq1Kx289BkUi-2U-Nx7d7ROiK9YRy-4brHsQXNMaXsHhhHx4xQyRRXVqv9UNF2wio/s320/IMAG1030.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We drove to Oregon last week (it was the kid's spring break from school) to see my dad so I had a TON of crochet time. 9 hours there and just about the same back. My dad lives right be the coast so I got to sit on the beach and crochet - oh, my! Soooo relaxing! I started a half double crochet hat. This one is done and I will share it on Friday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYmXqAhih_QyFLJNGBoH8d9NgUD8iLL2ajdRfhvbRf3fJhJqUfsAvM5F_fT9VbLGiP_P_o3umW3M-3qL3w2HhDR6pEO8hSnXzXdrO6wwScesveJ-2xEPT1hw35QjwoRO7cfDo2uGmDiNk/s1600/IMAG1033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYmXqAhih_QyFLJNGBoH8d9NgUD8iLL2ajdRfhvbRf3fJhJqUfsAvM5F_fT9VbLGiP_P_o3umW3M-3qL3w2HhDR6pEO8hSnXzXdrO6wwScesveJ-2xEPT1hw35QjwoRO7cfDo2uGmDiNk/s320/IMAG1033.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This crochet work is being done on our way back. It is going to be an Ugly Bunny Pincushion.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
In other news, my husband started and finished this project in one day!! Now it's up to me to do my part. Can you guess what it is?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlYctxBi0NIXGqgqngyh3bs_bBlTICzH2nEtmAp64zJfcdA6HgkYVB5MgzV-DcXga6mQb5SRknf70LVCQX_JezObJexDKlfXkK5lu9wVCLvPTpA2h6PaICF0J0TrYkRZ4Fw5xfX6yshlc/s1600/IMAG1040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlYctxBi0NIXGqgqngyh3bs_bBlTICzH2nEtmAp64zJfcdA6HgkYVB5MgzV-DcXga6mQb5SRknf70LVCQX_JezObJexDKlfXkK5lu9wVCLvPTpA2h6PaICF0J0TrYkRZ4Fw5xfX6yshlc/s320/IMAG1040.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These I got for free from behind a liquor store very near to me that just changed owners. There are three of them and they were sitting outside the back door of the store. I went in and asked if they were trash and if I could have them. The owner said sure! WHOOPPEEE!!! We are going to paint them and use them as fabric and yarn storage for my summer camps. Can you imagine how yummy and accessible the supplies will be displayed in these??!! I am so excited to finish them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFopFx92vT0rWQakrqIKs63V-G7_pMlC-Zu1dq-MAjwYSahrRMZc7B7ym3pG50Vmc1KzKqAidXqmnAWInsx16oRgcFv2ZP2BuOPU-g77iC4YGmlPXu0jijeaUSifnDM0juqt243cit5J0/s1600/IMAG1054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFopFx92vT0rWQakrqIKs63V-G7_pMlC-Zu1dq-MAjwYSahrRMZc7B7ym3pG50Vmc1KzKqAidXqmnAWInsx16oRgcFv2ZP2BuOPU-g77iC4YGmlPXu0jijeaUSifnDM0juqt243cit5J0/s320/IMAG1054.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a very small ripple blanket is also a sample for class. From teaching knitting after school this year, I have been totally amazed at what kids can learn and how quickly they can master skills that were somewhat difficult for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiewpw9G9xZ94tAeZ33kES8S4S6f2NXqzIQIxUPgKJbZCs6GCIlx65kwrw3w9QuBg_N0rrMDf_IpQR2ejGw4AeS8WTRF9hatrGK9oe-CAi3Np856BZLUyr9kwVBI7ujIoJTiDxtbpQktWA/s1600/IMG_3147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiewpw9G9xZ94tAeZ33kES8S4S6f2NXqzIQIxUPgKJbZCs6GCIlx65kwrw3w9QuBg_N0rrMDf_IpQR2ejGw4AeS8WTRF9hatrGK9oe-CAi3Np856BZLUyr9kwVBI7ujIoJTiDxtbpQktWA/s320/IMG_3147.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And...this is the book I am reading right now. It has tons of great information that I hope to incorporate into my gardening this year.</div>

Thank you so much everyone for your well wishes on my new art school that I posted about in my last post! It means so much to me. Everyone I know virtually and really have been so supportive, and ready with a kind word when I feel down or feel like I'm not going to be able to this whole thing fly, that it warms my heart and keeps me going. So thanks so much!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Onto other things...I haven't been able to create a whole lot lately but the kids have a new little baby cousin coming soon and I just had to make something!! I love cute baby clothes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUv2bJaaog_j72DO5ocnpe08TvpGfFGpsfxsaXABknY4HKN1N7AgUJbfhb1mrgbwvHTis_rpSVewxOjwZzoA0G01VcRjHqPmo17unCOBk2UVFM27VY-fxUEbIpfNKhsZRy9XTiMxyC-oY/s1600/IMG_2814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUv2bJaaog_j72DO5ocnpe08TvpGfFGpsfxsaXABknY4HKN1N7AgUJbfhb1mrgbwvHTis_rpSVewxOjwZzoA0G01VcRjHqPmo17unCOBk2UVFM27VY-fxUEbIpfNKhsZRy9XTiMxyC-oY/s320/IMG_2814.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This sweater was so easy to make up!! Front and back are basically the same, sleeves are the same, put it together, sc around the neck edge and TADA! A wee little baby sweater is born.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQrBSTJF_zkpalwVdfOt1AzdMAjJTjz_DGhjCXgJWwZmssOe0gGLnMo5Qg3MEcasiI3XX-vRQsKOSXSs2iK_fq2hyphenhyphenGEaYvmRVNsEoB5RMjeZrvPLuOModz7Y1KjTigChFGnP304gWRcL8/s1600/IMG_2816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQrBSTJF_zkpalwVdfOt1AzdMAjJTjz_DGhjCXgJWwZmssOe0gGLnMo5Qg3MEcasiI3XX-vRQsKOSXSs2iK_fq2hyphenhyphenGEaYvmRVNsEoB5RMjeZrvPLuOModz7Y1KjTigChFGnP304gWRcL8/s320/IMG_2816.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These pants were a little more tricky, but I powered through and completed them. I hope they fit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6jp_qzUsWUby2M09uMdpzIYX3LXcxMVEFwdY8VXy1NzJ5JH1w3bHJ4Xd8wDvETBiECpYeKJ1GYQUP3oa0cAdeJiDZrHEob7vt2_qViztWI2FMl256QJ-P4rP6FGIKs9pRe2xCPP60dBo/s1600/IMG_2817.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6jp_qzUsWUby2M09uMdpzIYX3LXcxMVEFwdY8VXy1NzJ5JH1w3bHJ4Xd8wDvETBiECpYeKJ1GYQUP3oa0cAdeJiDZrHEob7vt2_qViztWI2FMl256QJ-P4rP6FGIKs9pRe2xCPP60dBo/s320/IMG_2817.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The hat a booties really just crocheted themselves! They went so quickly! I love this newborn baby hat pattern and I think I will be making more of these in the future - an hour of time from the start to the finish and it was done. Aren't those baby booties just the cutest?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGi_flUtXWQyVq78J8cdRWTlVxbSOBcj6qI-sQ-XZKTaHsyu6QgDDj_nPvdOV47HX6aeKg9Af4Hu9KniGbbzKDG6Z4vglkWjIJvlmkW3ddsBjaAHPouDDNwrMUsSw3_37WMBaUIBVguSw/s1600/IMG_2818.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGi_flUtXWQyVq78J8cdRWTlVxbSOBcj6qI-sQ-XZKTaHsyu6QgDDj_nPvdOV47HX6aeKg9Af4Hu9KniGbbzKDG6Z4vglkWjIJvlmkW3ddsBjaAHPouDDNwrMUsSw3_37WMBaUIBVguSw/s320/IMG_2818.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the whole layette all together. It's called: Mint Green Newborn Set and is available for free on Ravelry <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mint-green-newborn-baby-set-crochet" target="_blank">here</a>. I can tell you that the pattern is well written and super easy to follow. The texture created from the combination of crocheting into the front loop and the back loop is really interesting and very pretty.</div>

I have started my own school!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have enjoyed so much teaching knitting after school, and the demand has been so high, that I decided to open a school and teach summer camps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmWEZNb8_068M8q7QF9PO1rIQCwYSOzSf9K7uPk4B1w8zigXnDvWKx3Xmp6xi-JTNG4SXRpjRi3vbEo8hLqDCReW-h2h1DvxS6qRY9-ToyXnhDSbXoTKzl4uSL2JPaCu-_RBHN5bZpn4g/s1600/jpeg-v5-Lets+Go+Crafting+Summer+Schedule+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmWEZNb8_068M8q7QF9PO1rIQCwYSOzSf9K7uPk4B1w8zigXnDvWKx3Xmp6xi-JTNG4SXRpjRi3vbEo8hLqDCReW-h2h1DvxS6qRY9-ToyXnhDSbXoTKzl4uSL2JPaCu-_RBHN5bZpn4g/s320/jpeg-v5-Lets+Go+Crafting+Summer+Schedule+2013.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My own crafting has taken a back seat a little bit because this has been quite a challenge to get started. Getting the word out has been the hardest so far. But I have been working diligently on that everyday for over a month and now am about 35% full. I'm totally over the moon!! The only morning camp session that has no students is the one that teaches crochet. I actually thought that would sell spots quicker than macrame or weaving, but this is not the case.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrM_btsS8YCiZ9LBZzJnNZEIB7D89ec_kv66WVceSQ8UI8F600WwzoP_ypXFxJKtLMp_qvWClay1fk8o3Jv3fBEVh9NndWQa1ZtOTamzaLVcmYf57Tl01UDI4fHGJy9i9EcX_cvg8dyw/s1600/IMG_2852.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrM_btsS8YCiZ9LBZzJnNZEIB7D89ec_kv66WVceSQ8UI8F600WwzoP_ypXFxJKtLMp_qvWClay1fk8o3Jv3fBEVh9NndWQa1ZtOTamzaLVcmYf57Tl01UDI4fHGJy9i9EcX_cvg8dyw/s320/IMG_2852.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't do anything without bringing my knitting with me and this is a new project. It's a sweater for the 13 year old - he picked the pattern and he picked the yarn. I love both and it's going relatively quickly.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wish me luck on my new school!!</div>

Ok, so I don't have a "true" finish this week. Most of my projects are long term, bit (to me) things that I am working on slowly, a little at a time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMCBpxda2q2ySGS3LBfKRA2JYF-6RylFlGYlVKLTxQanZhFbKWc3mZiX0j2qHpLdrtgTZnS_6T7q5kHRymzujV5X1hwDnBYtt5tw4UrHiOQxB4GNfSkey2bInjDDeCAvCbPN3qCsS7Its/s1600/IMG_2621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMCBpxda2q2ySGS3LBfKRA2JYF-6RylFlGYlVKLTxQanZhFbKWc3mZiX0j2qHpLdrtgTZnS_6T7q5kHRymzujV5X1hwDnBYtt5tw4UrHiOQxB4GNfSkey2bInjDDeCAvCbPN3qCsS7Its/s320/IMG_2621.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What I do have is my husband's sweater. I knit this for him awhile back when I was a new knitter. I didn't know that it was very important not to split the yarn, so I didn't really pay attention and went on my merry way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZKlQf_vRYZ3bt54ocHlb3myPirWbUY4dLSBlM3cp1IKKp2VLbhPM9PnCiI6VhB8uRvJIf7KgGQUf5e82_TiPYAKs3Wsni9Efb25K-l126q4YXkGk5R4778K8L7DONkbiIAGLIpFqiDp0/s1600/IMG_2622.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZKlQf_vRYZ3bt54ocHlb3myPirWbUY4dLSBlM3cp1IKKp2VLbhPM9PnCiI6VhB8uRvJIf7KgGQUf5e82_TiPYAKs3Wsni9Efb25K-l126q4YXkGk5R4778K8L7DONkbiIAGLIpFqiDp0/s320/IMG_2622.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The result of this is that periodically those split yarns will break and cause a hole that needs to be mended. I am not all that good at mending. It used to scare me to have to mend a sweater, but after much google searching and you tube watching, I am fair at this skill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRKDEGiPmUBkkLx5xAD3-mJg5tIC8-zBhYhbO6SGexFXo82JatmT3_GweMcFhCG7LScbx2UwNrQ4_t6kuFGhmiIbdxD8NRaRp4oaHScCe2a9CU5H0QClh1eGKSxxXpG_GcuWBNs9qZgQ8/s1600/IMG_2623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRKDEGiPmUBkkLx5xAD3-mJg5tIC8-zBhYhbO6SGexFXo82JatmT3_GweMcFhCG7LScbx2UwNrQ4_t6kuFGhmiIbdxD8NRaRp4oaHScCe2a9CU5H0QClh1eGKSxxXpG_GcuWBNs9qZgQ8/s320/IMG_2623.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did mend it and he is now wearing it again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The capri sun tote bag for my 17 year old daughter is complete and she couldn't be more pleased!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidDUiYSDWEpI7oelSLhw_xPKrlYQZFHgcLRJp6ouA5LfKFO1vgC45QtRDx4E7NkqQg-0q7rAKGkmd-2z3mvv3zW2zAULCMPsVVBgEg2yOYWsOzP0VYxUeiFhj2zleKFiiNBxccwN9vBl4/s1600/IMG_2674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidDUiYSDWEpI7oelSLhw_xPKrlYQZFHgcLRJp6ouA5LfKFO1vgC45QtRDx4E7NkqQg-0q7rAKGkmd-2z3mvv3zW2zAULCMPsVVBgEg2yOYWsOzP0VYxUeiFhj2zleKFiiNBxccwN9vBl4/s320/IMG_2674.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It is made completely to her specifications - 4 foil bags wide by 3 tall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7cWywdvzIMI7D3Op3LE4XkUDggfo_bpXXY2eIK5_jYmGKUUaqmJCEZro4Fzkyiaop_FSD3779WOSwZQqazc79qgmlVaOq0ize9mPA44ymgkxZIUmPjEKmvRu4Q9UUZZL7k6WzZpCkB18/s1600/IMG_2673.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7cWywdvzIMI7D3Op3LE4XkUDggfo_bpXXY2eIK5_jYmGKUUaqmJCEZro4Fzkyiaop_FSD3779WOSwZQqazc79qgmlVaOq0ize9mPA44ymgkxZIUmPjEKmvRu4Q9UUZZL7k6WzZpCkB18/s320/IMG_2673.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
For some reason, I just love the inside of this bag!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
From the side. I placed the foil bags on the side, to give a little bit more width to the bag. They do not quite go all the way to the top, but T is fine with that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO0nmQYemfu730pjh0yPLdj3xIZ1XwQq7drxdhyphenhyphenOn6PqI-Ht5fQq5rMh5fNTO9_jjIMH0-EzOsJaIbWkrXxLQ0tWwwj4oCzPNfVo9JFgW_mR9KhI5h7prnTXCkLiP63FUHagbcJhuQBo0/s1600/IMG_2720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO0nmQYemfu730pjh0yPLdj3xIZ1XwQq7drxdhyphenhyphenOn6PqI-Ht5fQq5rMh5fNTO9_jjIMH0-EzOsJaIbWkrXxLQ0tWwwj4oCzPNfVo9JFgW_mR9KhI5h7prnTXCkLiP63FUHagbcJhuQBo0/s320/IMG_2720.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For some reason, blogger decided to put my photos up not in the order I designated so sorry if this post appears a bit disjointed. I did not finish sewing together the squares for this blanket. I started them but ran out of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My new start for February as soon as I get it on the loom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the warp for my new scarf. It measures 3 feet and there are 122 ends. The scarf will have fringe, 4 inches of even weave followed by a row of leno lace and then several rows of danish medallions and another row of leno lace. The center of the scarf will be a twill and the other end of the scarf will match this first end. WHEW!! I hope it all works out. This will be the first time I have figured out the whole thing from start to end - the math for the warp, the design, the colors - everything.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3VrIphj2WOSk4gnli1-OrLM2IHV0o-H7MEhpkkaAfNUj3N-zdcE7eWbBQX8pyRK-6iD7u81hg2USlxM1oawieDDrWNLb8QrXRnSHAu4UuSJlVfAhFYcG78QBHhIJ-v-VeDglhqUpN7rA/s1600/IMG_2717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3VrIphj2WOSk4gnli1-OrLM2IHV0o-H7MEhpkkaAfNUj3N-zdcE7eWbBQX8pyRK-6iD7u81hg2USlxM1oawieDDrWNLb8QrXRnSHAu4UuSJlVfAhFYcG78QBHhIJ-v-VeDglhqUpN7rA/s320/IMG_2717.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These are the squares. I only got a few of them sewn together, but at least I worked on them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIDbxhawiaISCYR5dKI3hNP6mJ2Oh3JYVhX9-pO85f_8LaoPeTYF-xJHod1TSIy0aQiQtTqTiIYQEcyAricb-63pjUVkdsioL1ZGTB2Y1q6mbRmaKWleL2IfPtJbTdREFEkbSAD9-3gbs/s1600/IMG_2715.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIDbxhawiaISCYR5dKI3hNP6mJ2Oh3JYVhX9-pO85f_8LaoPeTYF-xJHod1TSIy0aQiQtTqTiIYQEcyAricb-63pjUVkdsioL1ZGTB2Y1q6mbRmaKWleL2IfPtJbTdREFEkbSAD9-3gbs/s320/IMG_2715.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This loom I had hoped to tune-up in preparation to get it warped. I would like to make a table cloth for our table and this one is wide enough to make a piece of fabric that will not need to be pieced.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the yarn that I have chosen to crochet my sewn squares together with. I love the lime green!</div>

Here is a WIP that has been languishing around for literally years and years. It is call Summer Breeze Bag (I think) and it was part of a KAL in a Yahoo Group I had been in. All I need to do is sew it together - I am thinking to use something to make the sides a bit sturdier, so will be experimenting this month.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did not complete my goals for January:</div>

In spending too much time on Pinterest :o) I found this little stitch that I totally fell in love with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6DQdeOo6Gl62DHkKfvMncfSr035cp3EDBqBLFsHyhwJMi54dGsHTSbW8WbgIIgQPfkg5NUWudf-eOyksflPvaU_K4AGLqOmphfQn05hvMaMHauOi5zIDmG7MYKOJ84ZRP2hkEP0eDwY/s1600/IMG_2700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit6DQdeOo6Gl62DHkKfvMncfSr035cp3EDBqBLFsHyhwJMi54dGsHTSbW8WbgIIgQPfkg5NUWudf-eOyksflPvaU_K4AGLqOmphfQn05hvMaMHauOi5zIDmG7MYKOJ84ZRP2hkEP0eDwY/s320/IMG_2700.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It is a sc, dc, dc all in the sc of the previous row.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqNKy1pYtnpg2MZCy9UZNvo5RwOrQAZ-NI-XUSrFptOkPMBPQg_4hSI4bH8NyeB1JEewdPc_uhMH1wTaMpFGxxn5TyTNtE-Q36le5RDw-kqYWNzd2tQFOrQHcVrfE2mb84MOmPtlrV_vc/s1600/IMG_2699.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqNKy1pYtnpg2MZCy9UZNvo5RwOrQAZ-NI-XUSrFptOkPMBPQg_4hSI4bH8NyeB1JEewdPc_uhMH1wTaMpFGxxn5TyTNtE-Q36le5RDw-kqYWNzd2tQFOrQHcVrfE2mb84MOmPtlrV_vc/s320/IMG_2699.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started a chain that I had done the math and thought I would wind up with a blanket that would be approximately 4 feet wide. Well....it wound up being 6 feet wide (obviously, I need to go back to 1st grade!) so now I have decided that is the length - I have made it 2 feet wide so far and have about 2 feet to go. It is truly eating the yarn though. I have used a one pound ball of yarn and 2 other normal size balls of yarn that were in my stash and then purchased another one pound ball of yarn of which I am about one quarter of the way through. It is going to be one heavy, warm blanket!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Both my husband and my daughter want a bright turquoise edging so this is what I chose. I am not quite sold on it yet. What do you think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIeNX0SI3QrIAzk_IamThN4Ezp9jvpXvDT7HFQZb34zO7oKxlHHUoyMRcFBRnGrHDpthDIWUfFOehBJcj-Ohta_iQ2gPC6Q08lBlYDiz-tB-kouanc_NHT3NJ0ETNNSzimzjMGzLb_yvI/s1600/IMG_2698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIeNX0SI3QrIAzk_IamThN4Ezp9jvpXvDT7HFQZb34zO7oKxlHHUoyMRcFBRnGrHDpthDIWUfFOehBJcj-Ohta_iQ2gPC6Q08lBlYDiz-tB-kouanc_NHT3NJ0ETNNSzimzjMGzLb_yvI/s320/IMG_2698.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my progress so far. My oldest daughter asked if it could be all white, and I had said, "Sure!" Now, after hours and hours of time with this monster, I am sort of regretting that decision. Just a little color, please?????</div>

This is the current book that I am pouring over. It is really well written and easy to follow. I am planning on trying out some of these ideas in the new scarf that I am trying to make from start to finish on my loom. So far, I really like the Leno Lace so that will make it into the scarf, but I'm not sure what else.</div>

<br />
I make sure that the kids are out everyday running around. The older ones have sports teams and they also bike to school. High school is 3 miles away for the two older ones and the middle school is 1 mile away for the middle guy.<br />
<br />
I feel I have been a good mom in encouraging them to lead a healthy lifestyle that includes lots of outdoor play and exercise.<br />
<br />
But, when it comes to me, I have not been so good. There is always something that needs to be done or taken care of. Or something that I would really like to do after my daily chores are complete (like knitting or weaving - both very sedentary activities). Instead of exercising.<br />
<br />
I also volunteer at the schools frequently and am now teaching a knitting class once a week. I find that I am not having the same amount of energy that I once had. I am getting older, but I think I should feel a bit better than I do right now.<br />
<br />
I read the blog, <a href="http://halfsoledboots.blogspot.com/2013/01/week-1-day-1.html" target="_blank">Half Soled Boots</a>, I find her blog very interesting, funny at times, and just plain ol' "real". I love that. Recently she set a goal for herself to run a 10K and started with a program called couch to 10K. I did a google search and found a lot out there on this program - even different lengths of time for walking and running. I finally settled on this <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1462924" target="_blank">one</a> and have been out twice. Today will be the third day. I actually walk a little longer than the schedule requires because I have a nice 2 1/2 mile route around the neighborhood that I like. So today I will do Week 1, Session 3 (I did not wait to start on a Monday - I started last Thursday, then went on Saturday and now need to go today).<br />
<br />

This is my new goal :o), for me and only me! Let's see if I can keep it up!</div>

My kitchen towels are finally off the loom, washed, ironed and ready for use. I am so excited!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There was another little warp problem right at the end. One of the warp threads jumped off the roller at the back. I have no idea how that happened, but I just attached one of my handy dandy little weights to the thread and merrily went on my way until I had finished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the waffle weave in the very center. I love how this looks - it's the whole reason that I picked this pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxBUuKwXxQM77ZRoO4dLq7nf0ekhE2mBU5isysow4N6jdl6xRgdI0CO7Hdr8aLgcTcRdtx6RnU4NUBmZ19zyw8xvnqt4I3Nov9dsdEljA9UPYYZkMqF218xGIgCiaFGasYJVAqx1Sr0YY/s1600/IMG_2679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxBUuKwXxQM77ZRoO4dLq7nf0ekhE2mBU5isysow4N6jdl6xRgdI0CO7Hdr8aLgcTcRdtx6RnU4NUBmZ19zyw8xvnqt4I3Nov9dsdEljA9UPYYZkMqF218xGIgCiaFGasYJVAqx1Sr0YY/s320/IMG_2679.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a closeup near the end - you can see, near the middle up there where one of the blue threads somehow missed when I was weaving. Every one of the towels (and there are 4) have a little "extra" design element like this one. Not the same design element - there are floating threads both warp and weft, missed stitches, and a portion of one towel where I forgot the pattern for the waffle weave so it is short one weft thread every pattern for a bit. But all in all, I am very happy with these.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1MNrGbfgaQYCW7KUSJExcKvpavuUNpY2I1AWQc_Om_DE_x-mENPgtpEr7I24Ng8rvpm3yqzc7x1Q147orSbmkKvd_QC1Rvkw3iex60SbBJJvGHu8-lIMVS7FciGEkXvaVcdId_R-Dxo4/s1600/IMG_2678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1MNrGbfgaQYCW7KUSJExcKvpavuUNpY2I1AWQc_Om_DE_x-mENPgtpEr7I24Ng8rvpm3yqzc7x1Q147orSbmkKvd_QC1Rvkw3iex60SbBJJvGHu8-lIMVS7FciGEkXvaVcdId_R-Dxo4/s320/IMG_2678.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hemmed them by turning under the ends twice. First though, before I cut them apart, I zig zagged the ends to keep them from unraveling. I'm pretty sure they would have stayed, but I still live in fear that as soon as I take them off the loom, the are going to somehow spontaneously explode and all I will have is a pile of thread. Silly, I know....</div>

AND... don't laugh ... I am making more tesselating fish! I finished my <a href="http://stitchingirl.blogspot.com/2012/05/fish-blanket.html" target="_blank">blanket</a> awhile back and I was missing making the fish, but didn't want another blanket. Then it hit me!! We need more pillows!! I got out my sock yarn (the yarn I am using for hexis) and started knitting up these cute little fish for the front of a pillow!! Aren't they just the cutest??! I think I'm going to try for something that is about 18" X18", but I'm not locked into that. I am going to play it by ear and see how it goes.</div>

Right before Christmas, I finally finished my oldest daughter's <a href="http://stitchingirl.blogspot.com/2012/12/super-big-finish-and-itty-bitty-finish.html" target="_blank">Christmas Stocking</a>. It was truly a labor of love that took me years to complete</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have now started the second one for our second daughter who is a freshman in high school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeaEP6fIGe5yo0vvOtp-jPOG6wIwAskrvLZitePN8k7SooszwWcaXlti8IyMSMSjQMgiIgAAqrJ9FxdIml42F2y6xjScKFufq_m_LjtOAD0T4A_3exwhap2v36TcqflQKbMvSM01EO_dI/s1600/IMG_2620.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeaEP6fIGe5yo0vvOtp-jPOG6wIwAskrvLZitePN8k7SooszwWcaXlti8IyMSMSjQMgiIgAAqrJ9FxdIml42F2y6xjScKFufq_m_LjtOAD0T4A_3exwhap2v36TcqflQKbMvSM01EO_dI/s320/IMG_2620.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought all the stocking kits at the same time (all seven of them), with each specific recipient in mind. This one I chose because of the wildlife and the outdoors theme. I thought it fit her perfectly and boy does it sure fit now! This one appears to be much easier. The stitching is not as dense and there are quite a few half stitches. Maybe I can get this one done this year.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This will be what it will look like when finished and she loves it! Right now I am enjoying sitting down each evening and working on it for about 40 minutes or so - this is such a great way to unwind while the hubs and I watch one of our favorite shows.</div>

Family Time</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. As the kids have grown, it has been harder and harder to carve out those moments where we are all together at the same time without any distractions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
School is great - but it takes up huge amounts of time</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sports are so healthy and good for the kids - but with practices and games they take up huge amounts of time</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Music/Orchestras/Private Lessons - the kids love them and have so much fun, but again the time commitment (especially when multiplied by 4) is also astronomical.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love that my kids are so involved with things that are healthy and that they love. I love that they have friends and like to bring them over to hang out and play. All that I love, cherish, embrace and am grateful for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
BUT...it means that we are going in many different directions and are going there fast. We have to be on time - sometimes driving back and forth across the city several times in one afternoon. We briefly touch base (and not with all of them) at dinner before homework. Some of them have sports practice or music practice that takes them away during the dinner hour. How did it get this way? When they were little, I vowed that the dinner hour would be sacred and we would have dinner together EVERY night without fail. Great idea, but it doesn't work right now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then there is all the screen time - computer (for homework only during the week), TV (ditto to the computer), phones, DSs, iPads(only the 9th grader has one and she got it from the school-ARRGH!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Family Time - I have made a commitment to having more screen free family time this year. This is my only New Year's resolution and I am working hard toward it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
To that end, we got away to Monterey over the New Year. This kids were not allowed to bring any electronics with them - not even their phones. My husband and I brought our phones for emergencies, but stayed off of them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Instead, we went hiking as a family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and because there was no texting, the kids got truly involved with their surrounding and other things that were going on. The questions they asked of the docents were amazing and the way the kids interacted with each other was great.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We played games every morning before breakfast. We had to learn how to modify SkipBo to accommodate 7 players!</div>

We are sharing things that we are working on and organizing. Family Time - that's what I am working on - meaningful interactions, less distractions. This will be our theme for the year.</div>

I didn't get a whole lot done this week. I was preparing for the first class of my next session of knitting. I had 6 new students and 9 returning students. Whew!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8uzJeD96Qi_EdCmhphYhho9pbqFOdCzH32bYBX6AVrNiGQF0PbjmFnYRFLDqKIwDWSAZV3knByafFEpK1cnQvKhiLNH0S9ie3i2EpOmbCZMdMgkag9YlFAV4vA0GEQKQciaVjCwE7N-w/s1600/IMG_2641.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8uzJeD96Qi_EdCmhphYhho9pbqFOdCzH32bYBX6AVrNiGQF0PbjmFnYRFLDqKIwDWSAZV3knByafFEpK1cnQvKhiLNH0S9ie3i2EpOmbCZMdMgkag9YlFAV4vA0GEQKQciaVjCwE7N-w/s320/IMG_2641.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made 7 bags and since I have two new boys, I made 2 of them with capri sun handles instead of ribbon. The class was on Wednesday and it went really well. The returning students were very excited to show me what they had been working on and the new students were very quick to learn. One of the boys (a kindergartener) had the most trouble and I was worried that he was going to be frustrated. So I asked his mom if he could meet me Thursday after school for a little bit so I could work on him one on one. She said yes and after about half an hour, he is knitting!! You should have seen the lightbulb go on in his brain - he was practically vibrating with excitement!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is something new I picked up while we were in Monterey. Wherever we go, I just HAVE to visit the LYS and see what is there. The Twisted Stitch was a little sparse. Not very much yarn. The owner was very nice and she was working on several lovely project, but did not have the yarn or the patterns for any of them. Ditto for most of her samples. I knew that she most definitely could teach me something and I always want to support the LYS. She was working on a very pretty white on white shawl - I started asking her all about it and she told me who she was making it for and since I had never seen the stitch, she explained all about that as well. I then asked if she had any appropriate yarns in her shop, that I would like to experiment with that stitch. She helped me to pick two yarns - a very fine lace weight - and a chunky variegated yarn - and I learned a new stitch!! "Scribble Lace" - I'm not sure it can be considered true lace as this is the garter stitch, but it is pretty and when it gets a little longer, the weight of the chunky yarn will pull down and open up the rows of lace weight yarn. It should be very pretty.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I finished this little circle loom hat for a new little cousin born to our family. She is just the cutest little thing - 5 months old - and so smiley and cuddly!! The proud parents let her be passed around to all the kids and boy could you see the love and admiration just rolling off of them!! Kudos go to the new first time parents for letting 7 children play pass the baby - although I kept a close look out to make sure nothing went amiss.</div>

This is from our trip to Monterey over the New Year. We had such a great time. It was relaxing and nice to just be together. No type of screens/phones were allowed - we talked, hiked, played games and generally just hung out. It was fabulous!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now we are back into the swing of things - school, homework, music lessons, sports, etc, etc, etc. Makes for busy times.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I came across a blog today: <a href="http://www.pigtalesandquilts.com/" target="_blank">Pigtales and Quilts</a> and she is running a fun blog party to set some goals for each month. It is called the 2013 Monthly-To-Do-List and I thought I would join along for some fun to see if I can actually set some realistic goals and follow through. So without further ado, here are my goals for this month:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Finish the tote bag referenced in my last post</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Warp my table loom with a scarf designed by me</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Tune up the floor loom and get it ready to warp</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Sew squares for a blanket that has been on the back burner for a bit</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Make up one quilted mug rug to learn some quilting tecniques</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since this is already the 16th of the month, I'm not quite sure I'm going to make it, but I think if I work diligently it might come to pass. Let's see!! Head over to <a href="http://www.pigtalesandquilts.com/2013/01/to-do-list-new-monthly-linky-party.html" target="_blank">Pigtales and Quilts</a> if you'd like to join and see what others are trying to accomplish.</div>

I have joined a group called: 2013 the year of the finished project over at a blog called "<a href="http://2hot2knit.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/2013-year-of-finished-project-january.html?m=0" target="_blank">Never too hot to stitch</a>" Once a month you pull out a project that has been languishing in your WIP bin or your UFO bin (in my case, I have lots in both!!) and give a little detail about it. Then you try to finish it in that month and post again at the end. I think this is a GREAT idea!! It's kind of giving everyone a hand up to get those WIPs accomplished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz75yoLxDxS6aarP6qCtTRZsQydp1_ppyn2aXhTfI5JvxBBvITGPI6-fpQ1xipaTdVoLUrnJ_3o_H8J2FgBSmDqn-978np-HUCw19m8eiWWn2DMBHFefXMCF8ylgR6kBIMWC-z5uuV0b0/s1600/IMG_2638.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz75yoLxDxS6aarP6qCtTRZsQydp1_ppyn2aXhTfI5JvxBBvITGPI6-fpQ1xipaTdVoLUrnJ_3o_H8J2FgBSmDqn-978np-HUCw19m8eiWWn2DMBHFefXMCF8ylgR6kBIMWC-z5uuV0b0/s320/IMG_2638.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is my first one. This is my oldest daughter's favorite CapriSun flavor. She will not drink any other flavor. As you know, if you have been reading this blog for awhile, I make little tote bags out of these used pouches. Oldest daughter is a little picky and doesn't like a lot of things. If I make her something, it is always something she has picked - design, color, fiber, etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_aFDZgV36LBOIcXZp0raAHYHfNmVNETtgpxD0lR9BqgZcRdA9RbUuWvG0UjEWh_dCn61tmFu7kYHp7QhyphenhyphenQ4LE9utMgIrtujIZGAXNB2ah3CGqn-RBh6auZplIUWHZLGjJlPP56fDs018/s1600/IMG_2637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_aFDZgV36LBOIcXZp0raAHYHfNmVNETtgpxD0lR9BqgZcRdA9RbUuWvG0UjEWh_dCn61tmFu7kYHp7QhyphenhyphenQ4LE9utMgIrtujIZGAXNB2ah3CGqn-RBh6auZplIUWHZLGjJlPP56fDs018/s320/IMG_2637.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After I had made quite a few of the little totes, she asked if I could make her a larger tote bag with handles and a zipper. I said, "YES!!". Then she asked if it could be made out of the Lemonade flavor only. I said, "Sure." Now you would think that in a house filled with kids this would not be a problem, but we don't drink juice very much. I keep a case of Capri Sun from Costco in the back cabinet for Friday nights when the kids have gobs of friends over. And, because usually on Fridays we do have gobs of friends over, I thought, "Oh, it's going to take no time at all to collect enough Lemonade Capri Suns to make her bag".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not so. You would think that with all the attention to detail that I have to pay to do cross stitch, weaving and lace knitting, that I would have realized that the big cases of Capri Sun from Costco do not, in fact, have the flavor Lemonade in them. And it took me quite awhile to realize this. I don't think I would have ever noticed if my daughter hadn't pointed it out to me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to actually go to the grocery store to buy them. Well, since we don't usually drink juice (and even when friends are over, my kids have to have their glass of milk first), I kept forgetting to get them. So this poor little front (or back) panel of T's tote bag just lay on the top of my sewing machine - it's been there for months. It gets moved when I need the machine for something else and then gets put back. I even now have all the pouches that I need to complete the tote, but still it sits.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This will be my first WIP for the new group! After all, T will be going away in a few short months and she should have a tote bag she likes!! Wish me luck - it really shouldn't take all that long!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I just had to include a picture of the 11 year old at her cello recital. Doesn't she look serious? This was not her first recital, but her pieces were quite challenging and she had worked so hard on them. She was very nervous that she would make a mistake (of course she did - most of them do :o), but she did great and we are so proud of her!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

The wrap is done! I really liked working with this yarn. I loved the thick and thin feel - the smooth and fuzzy and then of course that little strand of glittery ribbon yarn every so often was delightful!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3A-_5s1zAdrra58nvEMUEMagwYlUo28wZDvlLMSTgehxo6b2rT1bJWScgOfY9Nu1bw9l2pejbJhJIR_Cfg6if0UVYRPYvIrckaV2CXtaIyNlLSU_CjjSVvDLKCu59mqUv9JV3ynRr4f4/s1600/IMG_2611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3A-_5s1zAdrra58nvEMUEMagwYlUo28wZDvlLMSTgehxo6b2rT1bJWScgOfY9Nu1bw9l2pejbJhJIR_Cfg6if0UVYRPYvIrckaV2CXtaIyNlLSU_CjjSVvDLKCu59mqUv9JV3ynRr4f4/s320/IMG_2611.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I swear, I kept knitting and knitting away, just to get to that one little strand of ribbon yarn. I think there was only one per ball.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1-iFVqQQtt1qzBvUFr2RtF01e-I2OXNJ0m50gnI9ZVC4EO4aH8S2Ov5ukVGSZNw4tzheA14z50WShuT5OELJxFvAhNg_NvjIQ754m2EkrYUPMaDuiPYZ6WieTqgqf-ZsqtgFF354HEdo/s1600/IMG_2609.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1-iFVqQQtt1qzBvUFr2RtF01e-I2OXNJ0m50gnI9ZVC4EO4aH8S2Ov5ukVGSZNw4tzheA14z50WShuT5OELJxFvAhNg_NvjIQ754m2EkrYUPMaDuiPYZ6WieTqgqf-ZsqtgFF354HEdo/s320/IMG_2609.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The yarn is <a href="http://www.redheart.com/yarn/boutique-magical" target="_blank">Red Heart Boutique Magical</a> and if it was not so distinctive, I would go out and get a whole bunch more to knit up more scarves!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAJTYoNgmi8t4D1jsIYJOaFKhKzXHr85hdDMu6SgTFKbkyC8y9zjo5hAOJARfuD8hk_TgvstA1dDoMNBYFcIUwovsq9mcMu6pJDAijAia2MpyFNQbjKdBZ15kBcKAEQeToms0wGZgBFoY/s1600/IMG_2612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAJTYoNgmi8t4D1jsIYJOaFKhKzXHr85hdDMu6SgTFKbkyC8y9zjo5hAOJARfuD8hk_TgvstA1dDoMNBYFcIUwovsq9mcMu6pJDAijAia2MpyFNQbjKdBZ15kBcKAEQeToms0wGZgBFoY/s320/IMG_2612.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The color changes were fantastic as well.</div>

So...I have NOT been weaving for quite awhile. If you recall from <a href="http://stitchingirl.blogspot.com/2012/11/new-naughty-kitties.html" target="_blank">this</a> post, we gained a couple of additions to our family that did not go so well with the table loom. The table loom became quite the jungle gym where many a tussle took place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzjVr-iVTZycPVDR_NUnI2-hGSb3Ssl1M8sflbEAGN_oVYfgxrBScsVn8fyBg4wtIeZt9gKote9gtt8GN6UpssPxPyks_qzq86pTNvx51rXRRffSJ9JO7iGTysn53kYzyuLuujuhIK6U/s1600/IMG_2602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzjVr-iVTZycPVDR_NUnI2-hGSb3Ssl1M8sflbEAGN_oVYfgxrBScsVn8fyBg4wtIeZt9gKote9gtt8GN6UpssPxPyks_qzq86pTNvx51rXRRffSJ9JO7iGTysn53kYzyuLuujuhIK6U/s320/IMG_2602.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The result was this broken warp thread. Since I am really new to weaving, I had no idea what I should do about that except sit down and cry - which I did - after yelling at my new "friends". Who by the way paid no attention to me and came over after I yelled to sit in my lap and let me pet them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimQQd32NGjjSkVSstLyintVcrDyS68q-hnHyU_OivZfpc3lPMioPSMftsieUYPdZ0EPnGc9o0XKlNi75npynZgZQVarEoY-MktPZDpzyKoucNTAssJYG0ogFzQJ_Mu2KceZ4Oy0aKA9KQ/s1600/IMG_2601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimQQd32NGjjSkVSstLyintVcrDyS68q-hnHyU_OivZfpc3lPMioPSMftsieUYPdZ0EPnGc9o0XKlNi75npynZgZQVarEoY-MktPZDpzyKoucNTAssJYG0ogFzQJ_Mu2KceZ4Oy0aKA9KQ/s320/IMG_2601.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did a lot of research on-line via blogs and you tube and also talked with friends who are much more accomplished than I about weaving. One thing I learned is that broken warp threads are just a fact of a weaver's life, so I better learn how to fix them. Above is the knot where I have tied on a new thread that is hanging over the back of my loom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgINo4-k2DRi0tdj1QEM2Ev_LeEU3C_ClsNlGkR5lgX_wh_xZG-Ixy2Pz48KYHaSwAiL4ZGizhegrl4jrmllSpBsZ4NOcHtA1vaQZ712h1XBGXfJx6rkWQXvcGfCynJm5JwXfrdBS8m5DY/s1600/IMG_2599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgINo4-k2DRi0tdj1QEM2Ev_LeEU3C_ClsNlGkR5lgX_wh_xZG-Ixy2Pz48KYHaSwAiL4ZGizhegrl4jrmllSpBsZ4NOcHtA1vaQZ712h1XBGXfJx6rkWQXvcGfCynJm5JwXfrdBS8m5DY/s320/IMG_2599.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the second broken warp thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7zEnYG5Ehs3xm2Wny4n3cQf-COfrZGPh6qhU3YiF2L5NIT0Pjob4N56G4e3jN0XXE4dBRBOQZpp6ioTjHS0drRaPIT-G8OcWjzfM4qyl1UikAXJcQr9lZBgbAkC71k_aFGftD7oIl8JU/s1600/IMG_2600.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7zEnYG5Ehs3xm2Wny4n3cQf-COfrZGPh6qhU3YiF2L5NIT0Pjob4N56G4e3jN0XXE4dBRBOQZpp6ioTjHS0drRaPIT-G8OcWjzfM4qyl1UikAXJcQr9lZBgbAkC71k_aFGftD7oIl8JU/s320/IMG_2600.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And the second knot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjYkEl6wC80WK1y5hZ0yDJ95r6HaXJLEpC6TWSC20YfHNFPsoJTdwGyh6i4tKXEfX6Zu_-X9oK_T4rwJU0qm0IdUpqiJtPTkQkf3S869FayUcc9IsK8l4SB4PJF0jxn9xgYY7ysLEas2k/s1600/IMG_2597.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjYkEl6wC80WK1y5hZ0yDJ95r6HaXJLEpC6TWSC20YfHNFPsoJTdwGyh6i4tKXEfX6Zu_-X9oK_T4rwJU0qm0IdUpqiJtPTkQkf3S869FayUcc9IsK8l4SB4PJF0jxn9xgYY7ysLEas2k/s320/IMG_2597.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I know that all my warp threads are under tension and they are supposed to all have the same amount of tension on them to produce an evenly woven fabric. In comes all those film canisters that I had stashed away from when we had a camera that used film (we still have the camera by the way!!).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgvZIy_P7Rarq_j4he0wXUgxFY0CNBBaGL-SiR7Vzcr32ym7vhGim1aOKWBwkyWwfRI2WJZSwu-NgHfi_dXCTzdJNGAKx10fP8-27fwqXQf3b-XccYevOrFm4e_AuOG_ZcbVk43XkF0eg/s1600/IMG_2608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgvZIy_P7Rarq_j4he0wXUgxFY0CNBBaGL-SiR7Vzcr32ym7vhGim1aOKWBwkyWwfRI2WJZSwu-NgHfi_dXCTzdJNGAKx10fP8-27fwqXQf3b-XccYevOrFm4e_AuOG_ZcbVk43XkF0eg/s320/IMG_2608.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I tried many things in them to get the right tension on the strings, but these little decorative marbles that you put in the bottom on vases did the trick. I filled the canisters all the way to the top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg2bEB88JysdRy0O44_dQ8xQhfBfrrjA7keWAqECMAYGi0Tsr8uAjgxjS5vona2j106yKptb8rglfvhZF4VxMcsQLyRnTKx68iZTi544Sd1ZzLq-6cCGOh0uvBif2gq9U-RVD8KFqewVQ/s1600/IMG_2596.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg2bEB88JysdRy0O44_dQ8xQhfBfrrjA7keWAqECMAYGi0Tsr8uAjgxjS5vona2j106yKptb8rglfvhZF4VxMcsQLyRnTKx68iZTi544Sd1ZzLq-6cCGOh0uvBif2gq9U-RVD8KFqewVQ/s320/IMG_2596.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did not use a very scientific method to measure the new string. I just kind of held it in the front of the loom, pulled enough off to reach the back and most of the way down to the floor. This by the way was more than enough for one of the warp threads, but a little close on the second one. I would leave a bit more thread when this happens again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNCdtlG7qbsV-w7URItYEdPEBTwH7DUKzPO15p7q0D2jSUU19ER4VqqvstTvnpQyK7YbisTTaNEESxPt13s7fQzjcAAKw14vgYAP2NzUUC60CtXHdtG-RCJlTLLcG9-BHN6ddOF6qen6Q/s1600/IMG_2603.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNCdtlG7qbsV-w7URItYEdPEBTwH7DUKzPO15p7q0D2jSUU19ER4VqqvstTvnpQyK7YbisTTaNEESxPt13s7fQzjcAAKw14vgYAP2NzUUC60CtXHdtG-RCJlTLLcG9-BHN6ddOF6qen6Q/s320/IMG_2603.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are the film canisters in action!! They provided the perfect tension to weave with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwWMwPmv-VoH0UNT_vbt9V3GZis9vxjelOeAtdP-NrhlLbLad9JQoGdVRzfEFbcqqumxA0CL-cKaR4_v2oj1BlRsiT0zdvzrTWjsIotudEMyjOOL41V4VhyphenhyphenBGzhlNZ6dmA8aCdxYbJ2cc/s1600/IMG_2604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwWMwPmv-VoH0UNT_vbt9V3GZis9vxjelOeAtdP-NrhlLbLad9JQoGdVRzfEFbcqqumxA0CL-cKaR4_v2oj1BlRsiT0zdvzrTWjsIotudEMyjOOL41V4VhyphenhyphenBGzhlNZ6dmA8aCdxYbJ2cc/s320/IMG_2604.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the front where the new warp threads have been attached with pins and I have started weaving.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYfXy3GxrsIisTlLQmwV_JA88UCGmObyWWdJFwDEaqwDLEKmss8BKetq69Ak7yKQXdl2XOloIh1gqFYBLrMhMb5cBl5_XQnTxqM8zgVxXL_9XW5Dyre45YW7LbNUiYVRKnb8p5LNDyyBo/s1600/IMG_2606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYfXy3GxrsIisTlLQmwV_JA88UCGmObyWWdJFwDEaqwDLEKmss8BKetq69Ak7yKQXdl2XOloIh1gqFYBLrMhMb5cBl5_XQnTxqM8zgVxXL_9XW5Dyre45YW7LbNUiYVRKnb8p5LNDyyBo/s320/IMG_2606.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
More weaving. At first I had a little tension trouble, but it worked itself out and I was good to go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjOBVgITnJJDi6TV_Ylut_fUQGeMY9pAFhRkIEqwjsv_Sf9u8l6pQqgoAcDyVTM_gbK-hedmG5e_VhgsqCZ2OI0p2xIVeTsQlmeO3dK3QAL05AcBeeM8jElzdKy-Lb-IGQLvfdPRFZC5c/s1600/IMG_2598.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjOBVgITnJJDi6TV_Ylut_fUQGeMY9pAFhRkIEqwjsv_Sf9u8l6pQqgoAcDyVTM_gbK-hedmG5e_VhgsqCZ2OI0p2xIVeTsQlmeO3dK3QAL05AcBeeM8jElzdKy-Lb-IGQLvfdPRFZC5c/s320/IMG_2598.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Just for a laugh, I included a picture of these screws that I took from my husband's tool box - I tried to use them in the film canisters but they were not heavy enough to provide the amount of tension needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrdMxdKc7lOcEfiOCL2BhvuoAJYdh8v_yWuWGGupwyItfR6nr0xhiq3hJboFPDADXl2j2qFT-8eQLHTqJd8zchgTfwsLLPRXLDs4PZB0h8PspBcbSekt9SwqikTTvreIQfsBlSLlZaK_E/s1600/IMG_2605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrdMxdKc7lOcEfiOCL2BhvuoAJYdh8v_yWuWGGupwyItfR6nr0xhiq3hJboFPDADXl2j2qFT-8eQLHTqJd8zchgTfwsLLPRXLDs4PZB0h8PspBcbSekt9SwqikTTvreIQfsBlSLlZaK_E/s320/IMG_2605.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
More of the weaving. The tension looks good. I have done a fair bit since this photo. I finished this kitchen towel which is 3 of 4 and started the 4th one. I think in my fear of making a mistake fixing the warp threads, I forgot how much fun I have weaving!</div>

This super big finish is a project that I have been working on for several years. I have taken breaks to do other things and make gifts for people, but on average have probably worked in about 30 to 45 minutes everyday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am so proud to have actually finished it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKl2Muj4PP836Z0LC4CwjB_7_9KR-SWNWJvroLLLZtagfUlSX5JnPnWSk0zWpJ7VehHgYK3y3Al9Oko_1BDnerxewOB-wA_Z2tKMooJO5LQ6vUE7P1q38iRcMnpVlUYWxLnHriu6ySC2Q/s1600/IMG_2985.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKl2Muj4PP836Z0LC4CwjB_7_9KR-SWNWJvroLLLZtagfUlSX5JnPnWSk0zWpJ7VehHgYK3y3Al9Oko_1BDnerxewOB-wA_Z2tKMooJO5LQ6vUE7P1q38iRcMnpVlUYWxLnHriu6ySC2Q/s320/IMG_2985.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could not believe my good fortune in finding what I felt was the PERFECT fabric to line the front and also to make the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi6Yo1hbbvpLNtKVCYwb7HUE52-uUy6wpC82pdBso_DNWbkAY7tP0bdhRGtSKSBs-7E73NV_95FJg5wB3T3tG4YoUL0JWOlJmkWgYMzYdXKDCEGHxUUIkg-2_efT_51p9KIqqEkBx5CEA/s1600/IMG_3000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi6Yo1hbbvpLNtKVCYwb7HUE52-uUy6wpC82pdBso_DNWbkAY7tP0bdhRGtSKSBs-7E73NV_95FJg5wB3T3tG4YoUL0JWOlJmkWgYMzYdXKDCEGHxUUIkg-2_efT_51p9KIqqEkBx5CEA/s320/IMG_3000.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the back. I totally love, love, love it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiqPIp4yEp3XZCTkhFeeLxPEiRUe-dYvkbQinisIMP3xSWybBBtyVQeGmis5THJxOGWoLbut_BlZ7tsERiNwhD6opvstaD8JUy-ZqHgFdf5WF63K3hmb-N2br4W7c55Fp5zcJhLrAqNzM/s1600/IMG_2990.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiqPIp4yEp3XZCTkhFeeLxPEiRUe-dYvkbQinisIMP3xSWybBBtyVQeGmis5THJxOGWoLbut_BlZ7tsERiNwhD6opvstaD8JUy-ZqHgFdf5WF63K3hmb-N2br4W7c55Fp5zcJhLrAqNzM/s320/IMG_2990.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here is the front. This is THE biggest most complicated cross stitch project that I have ever made. To say it was a challenge would be a huge understatement!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWbERvpsbandzzLkhKpNBh1z7FvueV3qUzu_9zimh2sU2psllyz5GCF9du4mcXjg9BQLngwnmnhMeY0oWp49-dV8Ukdw8YokwliPiGhBzdlszMcW9XEfsnO9SDnpJw_i4oxDaQ7DtQAtc/s1600/IMG_2991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWbERvpsbandzzLkhKpNBh1z7FvueV3qUzu_9zimh2sU2psllyz5GCF9du4mcXjg9BQLngwnmnhMeY0oWp49-dV8Ukdw8YokwliPiGhBzdlszMcW9XEfsnO9SDnpJw_i4oxDaQ7DtQAtc/s320/IMG_2991.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is lots and lots of backstitching in all different colors and thread amounts. There are half and quarter stitches. There are places where there is one stitch in one color surrounded by other single stitches in other colors - sometimes with two threads of the same color, sometimes with two threads of different colors and sometimes with only one thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I found this fun and beautiful yarn one day while I was at Michaels. I had just dropped off my youngest daughter at a girl scout meeting, I was feeling a little blue and had about 90 minutes of time all to myself. So....I decided to have some retail therapy time. This yarn and several others found their way into my basket.</div>

We have two new additions to our family. Actually they cam home with us a few weeks ago, but have been a little skittish. I'm not quite sure how we ended up with them......We decided one sunny Saturday afternoon to go for a walk as a family. We set off and were enjoying the sunshine and conversation. The younger ones were running everywhere, playing some imaginary game that only they knew what was going on. At some point, we decided (the youngest) that it would be a great idea to go get ice cream. So....we reversed direction and walked toward one of our favorite ice cream stores. In the same strip mall as the ice cream store, is a pet store that just so happened to be having a cat fair that day. The kids begged us to just go "look" at the cats - they just wanted to look at them and hold them. My husband and I fell into this trap and said, "Sure! Why not." HAHAHAHA</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Meet "Motor". He is most likely almost a year old. His original name is "Honey Bee" and the kids still call him this sometimes. I call him Motor because he has the loudest purr that I have ever heard. When he gets going, you can hear him in another room. This picture doesn't show just how pretty he is - his tail has lots of grey hairs in it and he is so furry! He loves to lay on this little guys bed a bedtime and J reads to him. Otherwise, he meows outside my oldest's room (while she is playing the violin) because he likes to be in her room while she practices.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Meet "Tux". This one is a true kitten. Her original name was "Kate", but of course that wouldn't work because the dog is Kate. This kitten is so cute, but such an imp! She is a hunter and continually "hunts" the parakeets (poor birds!). She is always underfoot attacking our legs and feet. She sits under the table at meal time and tries to jump in our laps so that she can peek out and steal the food off our plates. All that is very cute. She has one other habit that is not so cute.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6AnrtLG08OupEcliYCM0_UZ2RX2r2icJzNNecQK5H9h2x1yfwLohlwXZTUR0LJ5zsPle0rCECJA49Ptgz34cG2-q6wOhAqEZC2c4UcyCl15MnliknvN5PMkrPfmsSRZeHTo3k4c2XKpg/s1600/IMG_2377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6AnrtLG08OupEcliYCM0_UZ2RX2r2icJzNNecQK5H9h2x1yfwLohlwXZTUR0LJ5zsPle0rCECJA49Ptgz34cG2-q6wOhAqEZC2c4UcyCl15MnliknvN5PMkrPfmsSRZeHTo3k4c2XKpg/s320/IMG_2377.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know this picture is very dark, but can you see that one broken warp thread on my table loom? We can thank Tux for that. I caught her chewing on the threads!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6khHv-7WTepiBYf9ltBwcriVWCU-RVt5YP3f6opf92cfD-kfjNp1srkQSWOQG_wO85Yy2qY2Yhqax2PWvbhUtoe5UvEONZFGKGE5msdkajdzuBc1D6lMgoZPEicpp9wY7n09OLV_Axk/s1600/IMG_2378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-6khHv-7WTepiBYf9ltBwcriVWCU-RVt5YP3f6opf92cfD-kfjNp1srkQSWOQG_wO85Yy2qY2Yhqax2PWvbhUtoe5UvEONZFGKGE5msdkajdzuBc1D6lMgoZPEicpp9wY7n09OLV_Axk/s320/IMG_2378.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
See this broken thread, this is another one. She was running under the loom and then would jump up through the threads and out the top. The kids think this is hilarious - me...not so much. I took my handy dandy spray bottle that I use with water for ironing and sprayed her every time she went under the loom. It only took about 3,769 times but she stays away from the loom now. It's sure a good thing that she is so cute!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I haven't been reading much in the line of real books. Been working on "Carrie" by Stephen King. I had been cleaning out some things and came across it - I remember liking it a lot, but I think my tastes have changed over the years. I am almost done with it and have not enjoyed it as much as I thought I would. Other than that, I have been reading my crochet and sewing magazines and planning for my daughter's sleepover birthday party this Friday (she is turning 11) and then our annual family Thanksgiving party on Saturday. Please don't ask me why I thought having a birthday party on the eve of the big family Thanksgiving party was a good idea!! Obviously I am a little addled!</div>

When I decided to teach knitting to elementary school children, I had no idea what they should start with. I learned to knit as an adult and I started with a scarf, but even as an adult, it seemed to take FOREVER to finish that first project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought about why a scarf might usually be the first knitting project. I believe it is so that the new knitter can become proficient at the "knit" stitch and create something in garter stitch. A scarf provides lots and lots of practice in this one stitch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted my students to get the same kind of practice, but be able to successfully finish a project a little more quickly to keep them interested and excited. To that end, these patterns were born.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir-E-dK_LdmYWC4mL5wbAsKQk0JmamZzktlX0JsftHAn2J7KetLAyH0_gojRdFA09Vaf6dXRLbhiQseiw89grCWPjwSxwgIqZMYgdpdacpMpoHj7hYQoWNX8bzwWVpysGw6TLbs1ky4WY/s1600/IMG_2290.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir-E-dK_LdmYWC4mL5wbAsKQk0JmamZzktlX0JsftHAn2J7KetLAyH0_gojRdFA09Vaf6dXRLbhiQseiw89grCWPjwSxwgIqZMYgdpdacpMpoHj7hYQoWNX8bzwWVpysGw6TLbs1ky4WY/s320/IMG_2290.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Stuffed Monster. Just rows of garter stitch which is cast off, sewn up, eyes and mouth added, stuffed and finished. They learn a lot and can finish in a 4 week class.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To my surprise this was not the most popular project picked on the first round (for session 1 or now for session 2). The kids that did pick this project and finished it, elected not to add the teeth. One of my students has made a few of these (a "family") and she did not want to use the pom poms, so her eyes are just buttons. I must say her little "family" of stuffed monsters is really cute!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe_k8uLeFR4oESKB6enkmkrBhS8OuNqjgwkiywGU6s8Fuavf9ki5MgII8Bhw1j9ukfuZZC1q1G3sGfQxoCAZeBKOaliZwEdYdKby-IzIUDfk4LGcTFOXOHOrGiz5mzQvla_2zL53dNmsA/s1600/IMG_2293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe_k8uLeFR4oESKB6enkmkrBhS8OuNqjgwkiywGU6s8Fuavf9ki5MgII8Bhw1j9ukfuZZC1q1G3sGfQxoCAZeBKOaliZwEdYdKby-IzIUDfk4LGcTFOXOHOrGiz5mzQvla_2zL53dNmsA/s320/IMG_2293.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wrist Warmers - this project has turned out to be the most popular. About 80% of the students pick this one first. None of the students have actually made these yet. They get to the length of one, and are ready to cast off, but don't want to knit another one so we turn the piece of fabric into either a bag or a monster.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzTxmO1b8e3QueqgF7ewTjD16yTXkDjeGYVjzS-2KjnfU2O52GhAmifVtz259ZP6CdwsHpxZNznmaI1lf53cts_HxlNZL2Ek7S1R3oO-Lg8-Lyw8431dcdFQLWWT3VwTv3e3eTOLk1F1A/s1600/IMG_2291.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzTxmO1b8e3QueqgF7ewTjD16yTXkDjeGYVjzS-2KjnfU2O52GhAmifVtz259ZP6CdwsHpxZNznmaI1lf53cts_HxlNZL2Ek7S1R3oO-Lg8-Lyw8431dcdFQLWWT3VwTv3e3eTOLk1F1A/s320/IMG_2291.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bag-this is the project that has been made the most. It is just a simple little bag, but the kids who wind up making it are so happy. I have a boy in this second session of classes and by the time the first class was over, he was half way done with his bag. He is in the third grade. Next he wants to knit a hat and I think he can. Another student has made several of these, but she modified the pattern so that the bag is much smaller to hold her little animals at home - each one needs a bag. She was totally surprised that I was unaware that each of her little animals needed a bag to sleep in - I guess I am totally clueless :o)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I leave my class completely jazzed and excited about what these kids are doing. I can't believe that they have so much concentration at this young age.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My first class of the second session was especially amusing. There are four girls who know each other pretty well and they all sat by each other. Well, after they cast on and figured out the knit stitch, they sat there knitting and talking the whole time. They compared their knitting and helped each other out. Just like I do with my knitting group. A new group of knitters is being formed!!</div>

It's been quite awhile since I last posted. So many good things have been happening!! And crafting has been going gang busters - but not in the traditional "I made that" kind of way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM-BhSErFp3iwr4Sy1SmEoykz_qOgt7HtPAqOi3ysMWRIfljcQDTlfaRR25kRaNcRAtXCenUJYghGR5ibiR3v9RGMm9Bs4H9VPUtlKJdBTvKMFTnhKSOK7Ll51mrMRytbrTb74xXJ1EYs/s1600/IMG_2364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM-BhSErFp3iwr4Sy1SmEoykz_qOgt7HtPAqOi3ysMWRIfljcQDTlfaRR25kRaNcRAtXCenUJYghGR5ibiR3v9RGMm9Bs4H9VPUtlKJdBTvKMFTnhKSOK7Ll51mrMRytbrTb74xXJ1EYs/s320/IMG_2364.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started teaching knitting to elementary school kids (2nd grade through 5th grade) once a week after school for two hours. It has been such a blast!! I had no idea how it would go or even it there would be any demand for this kind of thing. I created a flyer and sent it out. I advertised for 8 spots.....20 kids requested to be in the class!! I took 12 of them and started a wait list.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYgBr9yBrQ66c7mIy-n8z-UH6wsNikmP3DJTzMP1B-WtLLRFPgufO5JpgVPG_D5p-AcywwS0t7ziMNLMfQG8jmXnnhrL-dH3iZW-BiCWxnz8OWL2CRMHhvpgmSxgaTWECJEmeJmXZ8K_8/s1600/IMG_2365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYgBr9yBrQ66c7mIy-n8z-UH6wsNikmP3DJTzMP1B-WtLLRFPgufO5JpgVPG_D5p-AcywwS0t7ziMNLMfQG8jmXnnhrL-dH3iZW-BiCWxnz8OWL2CRMHhvpgmSxgaTWECJEmeJmXZ8K_8/s320/IMG_2365.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I am starting the first class of the second session and again I have 12 students. 7 repeats (kids who want to continue) and 5 new ones. How great is that!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Each kid gets their own "kit". I make them one of the Capri Sun bags to carry their knitting in (all knitters need a bag!) and I include needles, yarn, scissors and a darning needle. I think the kids like the bag as much as anything else.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9bnIBWaV4w0G22fvum0gVHBN3FiSTSlCGvUO8l4HJjA32iYU50eIxx4Js_eaCPduVyMmqtJYfoJOo_lLiDQrt_AdXQW5utLpJQgER3FGE0v1mLejzpNvjlFedMEyhvdBeJkQCAs8Ugh8/s1600/IMG_2366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9bnIBWaV4w0G22fvum0gVHBN3FiSTSlCGvUO8l4HJjA32iYU50eIxx4Js_eaCPduVyMmqtJYfoJOo_lLiDQrt_AdXQW5utLpJQgER3FGE0v1mLejzpNvjlFedMEyhvdBeJkQCAs8Ugh8/s320/IMG_2366.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They all start out making either a purse or a stuffed monster pillow. Rectangles of fabric which are then sewn into something useful. This is just to get them started on the garter stitch fabric - so they can practice without having to knit a whole long scarf. In the first session, all 12 students finished a project. One of my students finished a purse and has started a hat!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made this sample bear to show them that each piece is just a "rectangle". They have watched week to week as the knitting progressed. They saw when each piece was completed and I showed them that each piece was indeed a rectangle and they each were capable of making it. I can't wait to show them the bear in completed pieces and next week they will see the completed project.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did it this way for a couple of reasons. The most important was to show them that it takes awhile for a project to go from start to finish. I made sure that it took all four weeks (and more) to get all the pieces done. I also made "mistakes" and ripped them out right in front of the students - everyone makes mistakes and it's all good - it's just a form of learning how the stitches work. And I wanted them to feel like it will be a real possibility for them to make one of these too. The student who is working on the hat wants to make one of these and I believe she can do it!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't believe that I can make money at something I enjoy doing. I love to work with kids - I love that "lightbulb" moment when they "get it". There have been so many of these over the last month. And of course I love to knit. Such a win - win situation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The book I am reading. It was recommended by one of my daughters. Not quite sure what I think of it yet, she loved it so I will keep reading to see if I like it better as I get more into it.</div>

A new school year, a new noon art. I organize (with the help of some amazing ladies!) noon art every other Thursday at our elementary school.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We set up the tables - 9 of the 6 foot variety and lay out all the necessary supplies. This year we made tablecloths to cover the tables and boy what an improvement that has been!! Now when the glue gets all over the place, instead of having to scrub and scrub and scrub the tables, we just pull the tablecloths off, bring them home and throw them into the washing machine - easy, peasy!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Boys and girls alike - we had as many boys as girls in attendance. That has been my goal the past two years since I started doing Noon Art -- to find projects that would appeal to both boys and girls equally and it has to be something that grades 1 through 5 can do in 20 minutes. WHEW!!</div>

More than 100 kids came. Many of them made several of the boxes - we went through about 350 of those little boxes. It was fast and furious in Noon Art this day!</div>

We also put out left over Mardi Gras coins from a party my friend had thrown. We absolutely did not anticipate how popular those were going to be. One huge box of coins - GONE.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This girl thought she had "made a mistake" on hers and came to me in tears. I asked her why she thought she made a mistake and she told me because she had glued things on the inside of the box. I let her know that there are no mistakes in art - you can do whatever you want and it's perfect. Then I asked her if she would like to make another and she nodded her head and got back to her art - glueing things on the insides of her boxes.</div>

This one is interesting - the student colored on the bottom of the box a solid color and then drew balloons on the top - you can't really tell here, but it does give a good shadow box appearance. I tell you, these kids are fabulous!! I love laying out supplies and seeing where their creativity will take them.</div>

I can't wait for the next one!</div>
